Roger Fox

I qualified with C.I.M.A in 1981. In 1993 I was elected as a Fellow of the Institute of Management Accountants

Although my training was in Management Accounting my career progression took me to the level of Financial Controller and Finance Director of companies.

In my 20 year career in commerce I worked for quite a few different industries, including engineering, wholesale and retail, oil and financial services.

My last position in commerce was with American International Group. I was Financial Controller of their Financial Services company in the UK. The company had £300m of funds under management

In 1992 my career took a dramatic change. My wife and I bought a small seaside hotel, I started my own accounting practice and I began lecturing in Accounting and Finance at Bournemouth University.

The hotel had to go I'm afraid, I am now semi-retired but still have around 30 private clients and work 2 days a week at Bournemouth University. I probably ought to consider full retirement but I still get great pleasure out of lecturing. When the favourable feedback stops, I will stop!!

Over the last few years I have been lucky enough to have done a few lecturing contracts abroad. These include a total of 8 months at Chinese Universities, a week in Sao Paulo, Brazil and a week in Mauritius.

Over my 32 years at Bournemouth University I have resisted the pressure to do a Phd. My view is that I worked hard to gain my professional qualification, I have been successful in my business career and I am a good teacher/lecturer, I do not feel the need to prove myself any more. I prefer lecturing on finance and accounting to researching and writing about it.
